Meedio Ready To Go On Yahoo

Digital video recording comes to the PC via Yahoo’s Go service, only a week after Yahoo publicly announced they had acquired Meedio.

It was one thing for Truveo to go from startup to acquisition by AOL in three months last year. Meedio proceeded from purchase to implementation in about a week, as Om Malik noted on GigaOm.

That likely took just a bit longer than a week to accomplish, but who knows, maybe Yahoo’s engineers are that good. A visit to Yahoo Go and a click on the Get Started link under the TV tab shows four steps to turn the Windows PC into a digital video recorder.

Along with the ability to use a qualified PC’s hard drive and Yahoo Go to browse, manage, and record TV listings, Yahoo incorporated other features from its other products into Yahoo Go.

Flickr fans can browse photos posted to the service from the Go interface. Visitors can access the LAUNCHcast service to listen to online radio stations or their CDs. Go will also do video search and play movie trailers.

The quick relaunch of Meedio as Yahoo Go TV would seem to indicate that Yahoo’s Hollywood savvy has helped it out here. One would expect a digital video recording effort to attract the attention of the networks and their attorneys.

Yahoo must have been able to demonstrate in the time before formally purchasing Meedio that it could protect content from copying or forwarding on the Internet. If they haven’t, this story may have an update very soon.
