I was reading through the latest issue of Jim Daniels’ BizWeb eGazette this week, and it made me reflect on how many people online spend so much time looking for instant riches.
This issue Jim offered a peek into some of the emails he’s gotten, and the replies he gave. There was one particular email that prompted me to write this article.
Basically the person was upset at Jim for recommending Traffic Swarm
( http://www.affmatch.com/trafficswarm )
Her reasoning for the complaint was that not everyone would get the response Jim did because he has such a large subscriber base.
She then continued by saying that all the ‘gurus’ online that make lot’s of money have large lists, and that he should only recommend products and services for ‘average’ people like her.
I’ve gotten many emails like this myself over the years, and I really liked Jim’s reply:
“A subscriber list IS a great way to grow business online. And that’s exactly why I’ve worked hard to grow one – because it is a proven business strategy. In fact, did you ever stop to think that all the “gurus” you refer to are gurus BECAUSE they took time to grow a solid list of potential clients?”
And in closing, Jim said:
“…instead of ‘labeling’ yourself as an “average Jane”, why not start growing a list of your own….anyone, including you, CAN grow a great e-list of your own. But you have to concentrate your efforts on actually doing it…”
I’ve also had people get upset at me for making decent money online and ‘blaming’ it on the fact that I have a large subscriber list or my site gets lots of traffic.
This newsletter is now over 6,500 subscribers, which is NOT a large list compared to many others online. My site is now in the top 22,000 websites as ranked by Alexa.com, but I don’t understand why that is viewed as a negative thing.
For the most part, the top names that you hear about day in and day out got to the point they are at due to a lot of time, money, and effort.
Why would you view them as the ‘bad guys’ simply because they are a few years ahead of you?
That’s all most of them are, too is ‘ahead of you.’ Many are no smarter, no more educated, nor are they any luckier than you are.
They just started earlier and instead of looking for the ‘instant solution’ they put their noses to the grindstone and built their businesses to the point it is today.
Its true that I make good money NOW, but it wasn’t always that way. In fact, my “Affiliate Mistakes” ebook details all the many mistakes I made in trying to get to where I am today.
Make mine instant.
This seems to be the feeling of so many people online today, and to put it bluntly this is exactly why so many will never reach their goals of making big money.
If you want to get there, start following the successful ‘gurus’ instead of blaming them and accusing them of some evil plot to keep you down.
If your favorite guru makes thousands of dollars a month because he has a large list, then start building your OWN list.
If she does it by having thousands of visitors to her site, then start working on generating traffic to yours. If you don’t have a site, build one and then start sending traffic to it.
If he makes his living by writing book after book, then get started putting pen to paper and get your first book out there, so you can start on your second.
Making lots of money online is NOT that difficult, but it isn’t going to happen instantly either. You have to get busy and start working towards goals that you set for yourself.
Create simple goals at first, and as you reach one goal set your sights on the next. Eventually you’ll get to your main goals.
And THAT’S when other people will be calling YOU a guru!
