Macworld Conference Fetaures Free Educational Program

IDG World Expo unveiled “Live On Stage” – a new educational feature for all attendees at Macworld Conference & Expo.

The conference will take place in San Francisco January 10-14, 2005 at the Moscone Center. Live On Stage offers over 20 hours of free training classes by industry experts and will take place on the exhibit hall’s main stage beginning at 11:00 a.m. each day of the event. Live On Stage will also feature two Macworld Conference & Expo update sessions per day as well as the Macworld Best of Show Awards on the final day of the event.

The Live On Stage program runs daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Day one of the Live on Stage program, Tuesday, January 11, includes four sessions that provide tips, tricks and demonstrations about the iPod digital music player. Highlights of the sessions include methods for getting the most from an iPod’s battery charge; suggestions for creating smarter Smart Playlists within iTunes; how to troubleshoot an uncooperative iPod; fascinating tricks and the clever fringes of the iPod; examples of ways college educators are using the iPod to change the classroom; and demonstrations showing how to convert analog audio such as old cassettes and LPs to digital form for use on the iPod. Sessions include:

— The iPod Supersession, presented by Christopher Breen of Macworld Magazine

— iPod: Beyond the Usual, presented by Mac author Scott Knaster

— Converting Old Tapes and Records for Use on an iPod, presented by Adam Fingerman of Roxio, Inc.

— iPod in Education, presented by Mike Lawrence of Computer Using Educators

Day two of the Live On Stage program, Wednesday, January 12, provides education on the basics of the Mac. The sessions will help attendees who are new to the Mac learn the best ways to use it efficiently, explain how to get assistance and support for the Mac, and provide basic troubleshooting tips. Day three, Thursday, January 13, will focus on the wide variety of creative applications available on the Mac and will cover such topics as: “Tips for Digital Photographers,” “How to Make a DVD with Your Mac,” “AppleScript in Microsoft Office,” and “Tips and Tricks for Getting Your Web site Found.”

The final day of the Live On Stage program provides a wrap-up of Macworld Conference & Expo with the much-anticipated Macworld Best of Show Awards presented by Jim Dalrymple, Editor-in-Chief of MacCentral. Beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, January 14, awards will be presented for the most exciting hardware and software products announced at the show as judged by the editors of Macworld. Jim Dalrymple will host this live session featuring discussion and demos with this year’s winners. The Macworld Best of Show Awards represent a highly coveted honor within the Macintosh industry and are presented exclusively at Macworld Conference & Expo.

Throughout the week of the event, Live On Stage will also feature two Macworld Conference & Expo update sessions per day by Mac radio personalities – one by Scott Sheppard, host of The Inside Mac Show, and one by Shawn King, host of Your Mac Life. The live update sessions will allow Expo attendees to hear about all the new and exciting happenings at Macworld each day. These sessions promise to be informative, entertaining and full of opportunities to win prizes.

“The complimentary lectures during the Live On Stage program will give exhibit hall attendees a taste of what goes on in our excellent conference programs,” said Warwick Davies, group vice president, IDG World Expo. “We are always trying to add more value to the exhibit hall experience, and we think that Live On Stage is one of the many great new additions to this year’s event.”
