Live Search Mobile Looks Into Product Info

Suppose you’re out and about when a product catches your eye.  Is the item any good?  Is the retailer’s price fair?  With a new update, Microsoft is hoping its Live Search Mobile will be able to help you figure these things out.

Live Search Mobile has been around for a while, of course, but the Live Search team only recently added product search abilities.  User ratings, price ranges, and product photos are all provided, just as they are with the original version.

Unfortunately, some of the original version’s less admirable attributes are also present.  When testing Live Search Products about a week ago (it, too, received an update), we noted that searches for the iPhone – a product that’s not exactly new or unheard of – only yielded results for the iPod Touch.  Mobile users will see the same sorts of oddities.

Ah, well.  At least users in the UK and Japan can now keep themselves from getting physically lost.  A Live Search blog post states, “Another of our favorite features this release was developed specifically for our friends abroad . . . .  With this new feature, users can simply click Find my Location, and their location will be set based on their proximity to cellular towers.  Then they can get the most relevant nearby results for all their searches.”

This addition may have been intended to one-up Amazon’s TextBuyIt service.
