Internet Use Up By 24.3 Percent

According to Compete’s month-to-month statistics, there have been two dips in the amount of time people spent online in the past year, and one of those occurred between August and September.  On a year-to-year basis, though, the total amount of time is up by nearly 25 percent.

Internet Use Up By 24.3 Percent Or, to be more exact, 24.3 percent.  That’s still a lot, however – even if some folks spend just 15 minutes checking their email (which would correspond to less than four additional minutes), others (like your humble author) are stuck in front of monitors for at least nine hours a day.  To keep up with this trend, such heavy users would need to find an extra two hours for ‘Net time.

What does this mean?  Well, optometry seems like a good trade to learn, as does some sort of therapy specializing in carpal tunnel treatment.  Otherwise, Compete’s Jay Meattle writes, “Logically, since time is finite online advertising spend should follow a similar trajectory with marketers allocating their ad budgets in proportion to where people are spending their time.”

He then continues, “Needless to say, this is a time of considerable opportunity for online media properties and online marketers.”  And his findings could easily explain why AdBrite received $23 million in funding despite a stream of scary economic reports.

So carpe diem, or, if you’re fond of the eye doctor idea (and can read what I’d guess is incorrect Latin), serve oculum.
