Indeed, New York Times Interested In Company

Job search engine Indeed.com announced a joint venture including the New York Times has invested $5 million USD in the business.

How did you find your last job? Is online the way to go for job seekers? And is it worth $5 million to find that out? Let us know what you think in WebProWorld.

The Times Company and two venture capital firms were disclosed as new minority stakeholders in Indeed, a site where job seekers can sift through listings from over a thousand web sites, according to a press release.

Indeed claims to add 110,000 new jobs to its index each day, well above that which is done by its competitors. The company goes beyond searching job boards; it includes listings from company human resource pages, newspapers, and professional associations.

The Indeed web site offers the straightforward look and feel popularized by Google with its search engine homepage. Two query boxes, “what” for the job title, keywords, or company name, and an optional “where” field for US city, state, or zip code.

“We are pleased to join Union Square Ventures and Allen & Company in backing Indeed, an innovative new firm that provides compelling job search capabilities to Internet users,” said Martin Nisenholtz, senior vice president, Times Company digital operations.

“The Times Company has strong help-wanted franchises in print and online, and we believe it is important to invest in new technologies and services in this advertising category.”
