If you Build It They Will Come, or Will They?

If you build it, they will come. While this line was fitting for the movie “Field of Dreams”, it’s not quite so fitting when it comes to choosing an Affiliate product to promote.

Becoming an affiliate is quite easy: just find a product you are interested in, visit that product’s website, click the Become an Affiliate link and you are instantly approved. Simple right? Actually by approaching affiliate sales this way, you could be creating much more work for yourself than necessary.

A common mistake when choosing affiliate products is picking the product first and then trying to find customers that will buy your product. Unless you are very familiar with your target market, you will likely spend a lot of time and money trying to generate demand for the product you are selling.

A much easier approach (and who isn’t looking for easier ways to make money?) is to spend a little time researching the market and finding out what they are looking for. Once you have found that hungry audience simply figure out what then need and give it to them?

Spend your time identifying your market, not looking for products to sell. Once you have found a hungry market and determined that they have money to spend, then either find or create a product to sell them.
