IE 7 Beta 2, Take Three, Action!

The third beta version of Internet Explorer 7 became available for download as a true beta release instead of just a preview release, or an update to the preview release.

Visitors to the Internet Explorer website may now download IE 7 Beta 2, and experience some of the features like tabbed browsing and RSS feed reading that users of alternatives like Opera and Firefox have enjoyed for quite some time.

Microsoft also promises better security with the IE 7 Beta 2 release. Security badges displayed in the address bar while warning of possible attempts at information theft with its Phishing Filter. It also watches for potential malicious programs attempting to access the PC.

IE 7 could have some significant impact on the world of syndicated content. Since IE has a market share of about 86 percent of the web browsers in use in the world, it’s likely millions of browsers will eventually upgrade to IE 7. In doing so, many users may wish to discover feed-delivered content, possibly for the first time.

RSS feed adoption on a broad scale by a wide swath of Internet users may drive publishers to adopt or enhance the feeds they publish. With feedreading a strictly opt-in approach to distributing content, businesses should see better conversions from campaigns targeting that audience.

“We acted on a lot of the feedback and bug reports from the previous public releases,” Dean Hachamovitch posted in the IE Blog. “I feel good about changes we made based on reports from web developers around some CSS behaviors, application compatibility feedback, reliability data (yes, we do analyze the information that comes when you click “Send Error Report”), and user experience feedback.”
