In one of the more unique partnerships of the search industry and blogosphere, two seperate search entities are forming a partnership which would direct the appropriate traffic (blog search or questions asked) to the correct search engine.
The partnership sees blog search engine IceRocket.com and reference search engine Answers.com essentially redirecting traffic, depending on the query entered by the user. Blog-related searches on GuruNet-owned Answers.com will be redirected to IceRocket and vice-versa.
According to the press release, Answers will also receive a share of any IceRocket revenues generated from Answers.com referrals. Jeff Cutler, Chief Revenue Officer of GuruNet, offered these thoughts about the partnership:
“IceRocket takes a novel approach to search, providing options for a host of different types of searches. Blogging in particular is only gaining momentum as a mainstream medium, and we’re pleased to be partnering with a company that has successfully built tools to efficiently locate relevant content in the blogosphere. We look forward to serving both of our user bases, sharing the best of each property when appropriate.”
This was echoed by IceRocket CEO Blake Rhodes, who offered:
“We wanted to add a premier content element to our service, and Answers.com clearly leads the industry in reference content. It’s a win-win situation and we look forward to exchanging specific types of traffic with them; each party will do what it does best and the user benefits.”
