I Want My MTV Mobile Messaging Platform

I want my I want my I want my MTV mobile messaging platform. Somehow it just doesn’t have the same ring as the slogan of my youth but then again, it’s not my youth anymore is it. As recent studies show, this generation of youth likes the instant messaging phenom and MTV plans on utilizing it.

This platform will cover several of Viacom’s cable network offerings including MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, CMT, Spike, and Logo. They got the hookup (notice the youthful vernacular) through mBlox, a phat, mac-daddy mobile messaging service (more youthful vernacular).

MTV Networks (MTVN) announced the launch on Thursday and of their new, in-house mobile messaging platform to deliver wireless entertainment. These new applications will be available for all the mentioned channels.

The services include cross-carrier mobile voting, polling and sweepstakes entry; Comedy Central Premium Alerts that include jokes, insults, pick-up lines (I might need that one) and Daily Show headlines from Jon Stewart; VH1 Alerts including Best Week Ever content and This Day In Pop Culture; CMT Voting for Pick or Flick in their Top 20 countdown.

“MTV Networks programming is a multi-platform experience that extends even beyond on-air and the web,” said Nicholas Lehman, SVP Strategy & Operations, Digital Music + Media, MTV Networks. “Mobile messaging is an ideal way to enable our audience to interact with programming and get our immediate, fresh, and personalized entertainment content whenever, wherever.”

This move should greatly appeal too much of MTV’s market. A recent study said the current teen generation is Internet savvy. MTV continues to do well recognizing their strengths in the younger demographics and then staying not way ahead of the curve on many thing but just enough to keep cool, which after all, is the name of the game.
