I’m going to tell you a short story with a happy ending.
A number of years ago there was a guy that wrote a little book called “How to Make Your Paycheck Last”. It was a nice little book on budgeting. He was selling it for $7.95 per copy as I recall, and he also had a little workbook that he also sold to accompany his little book. As a set they sold for $19.95.
These products were nothing fancy, but they were selling quite well, then one day, all “you know what” broke loose.
It seems that his little combo pack was given a little free publicity in Family Circle Magazine, which caused his telephone to ring non-stop, and it really started to ring his cash register. In a matter of months he sold 180,000 sets of his cute little book and workbook at $19.95 per copy.
It turned out to be a pretty good summer for him. His sales that summer were about $3,500,000.00 as I recall. Not bad for a little part-time home based business.
That’s 3.5 million dollars, for a little homemade booklet.
His story was the inspiration that sent me into the homemade booklet business, and even though I haven’t had a three million dollar summer yet, I have sold tens of thousands of dollars worth of my homemade booklets through free publicity.
