On June 28th, the multitudes of Halo 2 owners will have reason to rejoice. The reason? Microsoft Game Studios have announced the incredibly popular game will be receiving an expansion pack containing nine new multiplayer maps.
The expansion will be available via Xbox Live or through normal retail means. The price of the pack will be $19.99. According to Xbox.com, “The retail package also features two new videos: an animated short from the single-player story in New Mombasa and a mini-documentary that includes interviews with the map designers, combat strategies, and fly-throughs of the new maps.”
The retail version will also allow owners to play against each other offline using the Xbox’s System Link, which is similar to a PC gamer LAN party.
In order not too leave the Xbox Live crowd out of fun, Bungie Studios is also offering incentives those who buy the expansion through the online service. Xbox.com reveals more:
Xbox Live subscribers will get an early chance to check out four maps from the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack in late April. Two maps, Containment and Warlock, will be presented by Mountain Dew at no cost to Xbox Live subscribers. Two additional maps, Sanctuary and Turf, will be available for purchase via Xbox Live for $5.99 (U.S.). To complete the Map Pack collection, subscribers can download the five remaining maps on June 28 for $11.99 (U.S.).
With over 6.5 million copies sold worldwide, one can expect the Halo 2 expansion pack will be massively consumed as well.
