Google Travels To India

Google search engine is now available to subscribers of Indian mobile phone company, Airtel.

India’s leading provider of telecommunication services Airtel has agreed to offer Google search engine access on their live web portal.

The collaboration between the two insures that Google service will be available to subscribers of Airtel’s General Packet Radio Service free of charge.

Airtel customers will, however be charged for any downloaded content using Google.

Bharti Airtel Limited, part of Bharti Enterprises, is “structured into two main strategic business groups – the Mobility Leaders business group and the Infotel Leaders business group. The Mobility business group provides GSM mobile services across India in twenty-three telecom circles, while the Infotel business group provides broadband & telephone services, long distance services and enterprise services. All these services are provided under the Airtel brand”, according to the official website.

This merger will result in a tremendous financial gain for both parties, as Airtel President Manoj Kohli stated at New Dehli press conference.

Kohli reported that, “Mobile users in India today outnumber PC (personal computer) users in a ratio of 6:1, hence, this is going to have tremendous impact.”

Google will also reap the rewards of the “tremendous impact” by placing their mobile ads on search items displayed with results.

The deal with Google is the latest of several deal that Bharti Airtel has inked, including a deal to open a chain of retail stores across India with Wal-Mart.
