Google Seals Deal With Byte Computer

Google has just reached an agreement with Byte Computer that will have the Greek company distributing Google’s products in, um, Greece. Byte’s website is a little bare, but the company claims to have “outstanding credentials in providing innovative and cost-effective e-business solutions.”

I feel a bit lucky to be able to read the site at all, to be honest. Upon first accessing it, I was greeted with a short intro – in Greek – which led me to the home page – written in Greek. Clicking on a British flag translates the site in English, though, and the experience supports the idea that Byte Computer might be of use to Google.

Forbes reported on the terms of the arrangement. Byte will apparently distribute, to both corporations and other organizations, the Google Search Appliance and Google Mini solutions. Byte, according to its website, has a good deal of experience with this sort of thing. The company “is an Authorized Reseller of IBM pSeries and IBM Personal Systems,” and has also “undertaken, as an Authorized HP Sales and Services Partner, the distribution and the technical support” of a number of products.

Byte Computer is also “a Silver Certified Partner of Cisco Systems in Greece,” “a Gold Certified Partner of Microsoft Corporation,” and “a Member of Oracle Alliance.” That’s pretty impressive for a company that put out its last press release in 2004. (That’s the date of the last release featured on the English version Byte’s website, anyway)

The American Google Press Center hasn’t put out a press release about the new deal, either, so further details on the story are unavailable. Still, it looks like Google is in a good position to increase its presence in Greece.
