Although the uninitiated might imagine that iPhone users only use their devices to listen to music and surf social networks, Google knows they can be quite literate, too. And a new version of Reader plays up to this characteristic.
Google Reader For iPhone
Google Reader for iPhone is just in beta, mind you, so imagine little it-may-not-work disclaimers attached to these assertions. But a post on the Official Google Reader Blog states, “This new version is designed to offer many of the same features as the desktop, while making it quick and easy to act on items. If you’ve used list view, then it should be familiar to you.”
Initial reactions have been rather positive; just the official post, for example, has been “Dugg” 79 times. Considering that corporate statements are generally met with either no response or a handful of complaints, this is a pretty good indicator of the development’s popularity.
It might be a sign that Google is succeeding with the iPhone crowd on a bigger level, as well. About ten days ago, the company introduced an iPhone-specific version of Google News. Google also made its traditional iPhone interface available in over 30 different countries and 15 different languages.
The search giant should be careful not to give too many nods to one select group of users. For the time being, though, Google seems to be making a good impression on a bunch of early adopters.
