Google I/O was, by all accounts, an important event. Lots of interesting things were announced and launched, and a bit of a retrospective seems appropriate.
Google’s released a video of the keynote, if you have some spare time, and recordings of the sessions are being prepared, too. For a less lengthy overview, a post on the Google Code Blog is best.
Google I/O
Dion Almaer wrote, “The show started well for me as I got to see a project that I have been passionate about launch, the AJAX Libraries API which has us hosting popular open source Ajax libraries on the Google infrastructure.” We covered the Gears-related developments that he then discusses.
Next up was Google App Engine news, along with stuff relating to the Google Earth API and browser plug-in. The Google Contacts API update made the list, as did the Google Visualization API update and the Google Web Toolkit 1.5 Release Candidate. Almaer added, “Finally, in housekeeping news, the Maps API blog has been transformed to the new Geo Developer Blog, so update your feed readers.”
Considering all of this was packed into a two-day event, Google’s developers deserve a collective pat on the back. Toss in fun stuff like a Flight of the Conchords performance, beer, and chocolate, and you can bet that a lot of people have penciled Google I/O on their 2009 calendars.
