Google Improves Universal Results for Locations

Google is now showing images in universal search results for location queries. They have shown maps for some time, but the addition of images enriches the results that much more.

“As any traveler could tell you, knowing the geographical location of a place is only part of the story. It’s often just as valuable to get a sense of what the place is like, and there’s no better way to do that than by looking at images of some of its most important sights,” says

Here are a couple examples of searches for Paris and for Yellowstone National Park:

The image results you see with the maps in universal results aren’t just coming from standard Google image searches. They’re actually coming from the photos layer on Google maps. You can of course click through from any of these images to browse that layer for yourself. There you will find a variety of geo-tagged photos.

The results do not appear this way in results for every location yet. I am not getting a photos for a “Lexington” search, but a number of other cities I tried off the top of my head were showing them, so perhaps they are not too limited.
