Google Improves Apps On iPhone

It’s no secret that Google and Apple are friends on both corporate and personal levels.  Prepare not to be shocked, then, that Google just released an improved interface for iPhone users.

Of course, unsurprising is a completely different thing from unimpressive, and the new interface is getting some favorable reviews.  To check it out for yourself, simply visit google.com on an iPhone.  If you’re lacking one, or would prefer some more explanations, Steve Kanefsky discussed the interface’s origins on the Official Google Mobile Blog.

 Google Improves Apps On iPhone

“I set out to create an application that would preload my favorite Google products and allow me to switch between them instantly,” he wrote.  “I wanted web results as well as image, local, and news results without having to repeat my search.  I wanted to check Gmail and my news feeds in Google Reader without having to load a new page every time.  I also wanted Google Suggest to save me time typing queries on the virtual keyboard.”

Kanefsky presumably succeeded on all these counts, as he went on to say that his creation has undergone informal use and testing by a number of Googlers.

As for those of you who are wondering where this development leaves non-iPhone users, well . . . we’ve not been forgotten about.  A senior product manager told Elinor Mills that “Google plans to optimize its applications for other phones eventually.”
