Google, Eniro Make Friends In Land Of Meshuggah

Sweden is home to some fantastic bands, including Opeth, Arch Enemy, and Amon Amarth; I’d call these groups some of the world’s leading music makers.  Sweden is also home to Eniro, which has called itself “the leading search company in the Nordic media market.”  And Eniro has just expanded its partnership with another notable name: Google.

Google and Eniro have been involved with each other since 2003, but “[t]he new agreement means that company information from Eniro will also be visible on Google Maps,” according to an official document.  A lot of happy press release-ese ensues, and it’s hard to blame the companies for getting excited.

“Expanding the partnership with Google is part of our continuing effort to enhance online advertisers’ visibility and increase the value of their participation in our channels,” explains Tomas Franzen, Eniro’s president and CEO.  “We are very pleased to have signed this agreement.”

Petri Kokko, Google’s Country Manager in Sweden, gave a similar statement, saying, “Google Maps builds on good information from our partners.  We know that users place high value on local information and we appreciate that Eniro supplies the information to Google Maps.”

Fair warning here: a lot of Eniro’s information is in Swedish, so English speakers may not have an easy time understanding it.  Ditto for the lyrics of a number of Swedish bands.  Some of those bands are pretty great, however, and in the eyes of Google and Eniro, this new deal is anything but bad.
