Google Earth Resumes Downloads

Recently, Google suspended the ability to download the appropriate file to install their increasingly popular Google Earth map service. Google provided no reason for doing so, although some speculated that the demand for Google Earth was (and is) extremely high, and therefore Google couldn’t support all of the download requests.

However, it appears as if Google corrected whatever was caused them to suspend Google Earth downloads because the ability to do so is available again. Prospective users can now download the free version of Google Earth, as well as the option to purchase Google Earth Plus and Google Earth Pro.

Google Earth Resumes Downloads Google Earth Plus gives users the ability to:

  • GPS integration – read tracks and waypoints from your GPS.
  • Higher resolution printing (greater than screen resolution).
  • Customer support via email (not just web).
  • Annotation – adds draw/sketch tools for richer annotations (can be shared as KML).
  • Data importer – read address points from .csv files.
  • In order to “get” Google Earth Plus, download the free version and select “Upgrade to Plus” in the Help menu. The Google Earth Plus upgrade costs only $20 (USD).

  • Because of all the advanced features available, Google Earth Pro costs $700. There is, however, a 7-day free trial for those who are interested but unsure about whether or not to purchase the pro version.
