Google, Apple Appeal To MBAs

Graduates from MBA programs really want to spend some of their career at the Googleplex after leaving school.

The results of a Universum Communications survey posted at CNNMoney shows Google rated behind only McKinsey as the place where new grads want to see their names on a desk.

Tech companies were sprinkled throughout the results, as MBA candidates surveyed rated Apple in seventh place. Microsoft, despite its relatively lackluster stock performance, came in 16th place.

IBM, Intel, and Yahoo placed 23, 25, and 26 in the survey results, while Dell and eBay ranked 35 and 36 respectively.

Google and Yahoo being on the list indicates confidence in those businesses by those new candidates, according to a ZDNet article on the survey.

Among the interesting points made about the survey included a greater expressed desire for balance between work and life, rather than the live-at-work ethos of the past. And, they want an average salary of $88,000 in their first job after graduation.

Let’s hope they aren’t carrying a lot of student loans with them to Mountain View or Sunnyvale. Housing costs in and around Silicon Valley still run very high. 88K may sound like a lot now, but between loans, housing, and paying Uncle Sam his vig can slash that to pieces in a hurry.
