When Apple debuted the highly praised OS X, one of the inclusions was Dashboard, a utility that allows users to develop widgets to increase the functionality of their computing experience.
Since its launch, there have been many Dashboard widgets released, and some of them have been developed to increase the usability of Google and its services. One such widget, GPeek (pointed out by the Unofficial Google Blog), allows users to check their Gmail account for incoming messages from the comfort of their desktop.
According to the developer’s description, GPeek features the following:
by time – every minute; once a day; whatever you’d like
by event – only checks when you check dashboard
manually – for those that fear automation
To ensure account information safety, the developer also ensured all communications between the widget and GMail was doing via a secure SSL connection. Passwords are also encrypted.
