Gmail To Support Mobile Technology

Google’s email service, Gmail, has been the topic of much discussion among the internet communities. Every aspect of Google’s new service has been dissected, with both negative and positive points of view receiving equal time. All the while Gmail hasn’t even left its beta testing stage.

Because Gmail is still in beta, Google has been very receptive to suggestions about their service. One such suggestion made by the bloggers over at endgadet.com looks like it may come to fruition. Endgadget.com, which covers high tech gadgets, asked about Gmail’s service being available to mobile gadgets like cell phones and PDAs.

Google responded to endgadget by stating Gmail is going to begin offering these new features:

– Automatic forwarding of your email to another account
– Plain HTML version of Gmail
– Import/export Contacts

The first feature, automatic forwarding, is the one for mobile gadgets. Gmail users will be able to have incoming Gmail mailings forwarded to their phones and/or PDAs. Endgadget’s response displayed their pleasure with Gmail’s upcoming features:

“Very cool! We’re looking forward to forwarding/notifying our cellphones via SMS when we have new Gmail and since there will be plain HTML, that means access on all/most of our devices. If Google does this right, Gmail might be the best email solution for mobile devices (and you get a gig of storage).”

Thanks to Andy Beal for pointing this out.
