Google has announced a couple new features for Gmail. They’re almost cranking out too many to keep up with aren’t they?
The first one is a Gmail Labs feature called “Title Tweaks” that simply changes the order of he elements in the browser title bar to put the more important things first. This was designed for users who keep a number of tabs open in their web browser but like to see when they get new emails without having to click back to the tab they have Gmail open in.
Normally, the tab will cut off the title, which by default says something like “Gmail – Inbox (6). What Title Tweak does is pub the Inbox number first, so that’s what you see if it gets cut off. A minor feature, but a useful one nonetheless.
The second feature is an update to attachment functionality. Before, when you wanted to send multiple attachments, you had to select each one individually and could only guess at how long it would take to send.
Now “If you want to send a few files from the same folder, simply hold down the Ctrl key (Cmd on OS X) and click on each file you want to attach to your message,” explains software Engineer Wes Carr on the Gmail Blog. “You can also hold down the Shift key to select a continuous list of files. A definite time saver.”
As pictured above, you wil also see progress bars on each file so you can get an idea of how long it will take to finish uploading.
These features are not exactly groundbreaking, but sometimes it’s the little things that make a whole lot of difference. Added convenience is always appreciated by users, and anything to improve that can go a long way when it comes to keeping customers loyal.
