GlobalSpec, known as “The Engineering Search Engine”, has partnered with Engineering.com to improve the site’s search capabilities. Engineering.com is designed to serve as a global portal for those interested in the field. The goal of ENGINEERING.com is “to become the ultimate resource tool for the global engineering community and to provide a leading business-to-business Internet marketplace for engineering products and services.”
By adding the search services of GlobalSpec, they are taking the necessary steps to accomplish this. The partnership gives ENGINEERING.com users access to SpecSearch, GlobalSpec’s search technology. This will allow users will be able to search by detailed specification for products and services from more than 64 million parts in 1,000,000 product families from more than 10,500 supplier catalogs.
Scott Virkler, Vice President of Business Development at GlobalSpec said of the partnership, “We’re pleased to provide engineers and technical professionals with unique, proprietary search tools and deep engineering content to help them increase productivity, efficiency and speed to market. Our partnership with ENGINEERING.com lets us further extend our powerful search capabilities to the engineering community.”
The GlobalSpec search engine was developed in 1996 and focuses solely on the engineering aspect of the web. According to their about page, “Included in The Engineering Search Engine is access to the hidden Web – content protected by firewalls, requiring registration or fees to access. In other words, content not readily available to general, mass-market search engines.”
SpecSearch allows users to search detailed product specifications using “the world’s largest parametrically searchable database of technical products, components and services, and related industrial catalogs in an online format.”
“Thousands of engineers visit ENGINEERING.com every day to perform tasks and to obtain information that helps them in their jobs. With our new partnership with GlobalSpec, we are adding the leading product search tool for engineers. SpecSearch is clearly an ideal complement to the ENGINEERING.com SOLUTION MACHINE,” said John Hayes of ENGINEERING.com.
