Some people would have you believe that it’s easier to get a job with the CIA than with Google. Google has a reputation for putting applicants – who must already meet very high standards – through at least six or so rigorous interviews. The company is in the process of changing its hiring procedures, though, and the changes may make things easier on those would-be Googlers.
That still seems excessive to me. But apparently Google doesn’t want anyone to think that it’s becoming a pushover. CEO Eric Schmidt was quoted as saying that Google is “able to now in fact increase the standards by which we select and hire new people.”
Still, news of the changing procedures has impressed most people as a “good thing.” Nathan Weinberg explained the relaxed interview process by saying that Google’s “needs for a ton of more employees have outstripped its desire to put every candidate through hell.”
“Google’s hiring has long been a topic of debate,” Weinberg continued, “and if they are truly turning a corner, the company and the industry should benefit.”
If nothing else, the applicants will appreciate having an easier time of things.
