Firefox Debuts In World Cup

As Juan, a soccer fan, plugs away at his desk job, he isn’t as distraught as he might be for having to miss his home country’s appearance in the World Cup. Juan’s Firefox browser is decked out in his national colors and fills him in each time his team scores a GOOOOOOAAALLL!

Mozilla released an add-on for Firefox 1.5 today that allows users to theme the browser with national team colors, track World Cup scores and headlines, view videos, chat with other soccer fans, and receive up-to-the-minute match and goal notifications.

Called the Joga.com Companion, the add-on was developed by Mozilla and made available by Google. Joga.com, the lovechild of Google and Nike, debuted in late March of this year as a social networking community for soccer fanatics with the slogan Joga Bonito (Play Beautiful, in Portuguese).

“Soccer fans worldwide are passionate about their teams and the sport, and the Web has become the major vehicle to follow these passions and connect with like-minded people,” said Christopher Beard, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management, Mozilla Corp.

“The Joga.com Companion is a great way for everyone who loves soccer to join a worldwide community of fans, show pride in their team, follow all the action, and stay connected while online.”

The Joga.com Companion is now available as a free download in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese, with additional languages available soon.
