FileMaker Improves PDF Integration With Excel

FileMaker has worked to improve integration of PDF files with Microsoft Excel, and has done so with the shipment of its a new version of its database, FileMaker Pro 8.

FileMaker has licensed the Adobe PDF Library and featured it in FileMaker Pro 8. Users can convert graphic-rich documents to PDF files and share them with non-FileMaker users.

FileMaker Pro 8 also allows users to save data as Microsoft Excel files, which can also be easily shared via email with non-FileMaker users. Lisa Vaas of PDFzone writes:

Beyond the ability to save files in the PDF format, the upgrade also allows users to specify elements such as subject, author, password or privileges. This enables users to send unique PDFs that are customized via access or printing rights, among other things.

In addition, the company has redubbed its FileMaker Developer edition, which it is now calling FileMaker Pro 8 Advanced. FileMaker President Dominique Goupil said that this change came about after the company determined that some one-fourth of users described themselves as “advanced.”

“FileMaker 8 has set a new standard for the database market by delivering the ultimate combination of power, ease of use, and sharing,” said Goupil.

“By making it easier to create, learn and use shared information solutions, FileMaker 8 will bring even more new users into the database category,” Goupil added. “Customers can now work faster and share data with more people and office applications than any other desktop database.”

FileMaker issued a very detailed press release, which tells all about all of the program’s features. Check that out here.
