Facebook Offers A Look Into Usage Stats

Facebook has updated its user statistics, which show that its total number of users is up to 140 million. Half of them are outside of college (which is significant considering the network’s roots), and the fastest growing demographic is 25 and older.

According to Justin Smith at Inside Facebook, who provides the graph below, “While Facebook has been growing at around 300,000 to 400,000 active users per day for most of the fourth quarter (based on our estimations), its growth rate seems to have significantly increased in recent weeks to 600,000 or perhaps even 700,000 new users each day.”

Facebook is not only growing domestically, but internationally as well. Over 35 translations are available on the site with more than 60 more in development, and over 70% of Facebook’s users are outside of the U.S.

The social network’s growth rate is pretty incredible. Perhaps it is one reason that government restrictions are being put in place in one country.

Facebook offers a number of other usage stats. The average users has 100 friends, 2.6 billion minutes are spent on Facebook every day worldwide, over 13 million users update their statuses at least once a day, and over 2.5 million users become fans of pages every day.

Over 700 million photos and 4 million videos are uploaded every month, over 15 million pieces of content are shared, over 2 million events are created every month, and over 19 million active user groups exist. 140 new applications are added per day. Applications are being used by over 95% of Facebook members (at least once).
