Facebook Nine Days Away From New Headquarters

In nine days’ time, a lot of Facebook employees will likely wind up carrying cardboard boxes full of office supplies to their cars.  Fans of the social network don’t need to worry about the company going under, though; instead, everyone will just be relocating to a vastly bigger workspace at the Stanford Research Park.

This move has been under discussion for quite a while.  We’ve known since August of last year, for example, that Facebook would be taking over about 150,000 square feet formerly occupied by Hewlett-Packard and Agilent.  It’s also no secret that Facebook would still like to construct a campus of its own at some point.

As for some newer information, Will Oremus reports, “To ease the migration from bustling downtown to sprawling office park, Facebook said Monday it will offer all of its Bay Area employees a Caltrain GO Pass, good for unlimited rides on the San Jose-to-San Francisco commuter line.  A shuttle will whisk employees from the downtown Palo Alto and California Avenue stations to the new office.”

Furthermore, “The shuttle will also stop at a spillover parking lot on Page Mill Road, which the company has acquired to avoid conflict with neighbors in the quiet College Terrace and Peter Coutts districts.”

So Facebook appears to be as financially sound as ever.  We’ll keep an eye out for pics of its new headquarters.
