Miss Nelson explained to Murdok why this kid-safe browser was a project so important to her.

“As a 13 year old girl I was approached by an online preditor while chatting in a chat room. He asked the question ASL, which means age, sex location. I gave him the information not knowing any better and about a week later he sent inappropriate pictures of himself to me and my friends. That’s when we alerted our parents. That situation really sparked my interest in Internet safety.”

Greg Writer, CEO of Children’s Educational Network approached Miss America regarding her participation in a new child-safe Internet browser. Greg told Murdok:

“We wanted to create something that kids want to use and that kids thought was cool and would tell other kids about it. We designed this browser to interact with different brands like Shrek and Miss America.”

The Miss America browser permits access to over 10,000 websites that have been prescreened by the Children’s Educational Network. It also allows parents to add sites to the approved list. Parents can also lock the web browser so that children cannot access any other browser on the computer.
