The handwriting is on the wall–if you want to build a solid newsletter list, you need to start using “Verified Opt-In” (Often called “Double Opt-In”). Here are some tips to getting verified opt-ins without killing your subscriber base:
1. Offer a valuable free giveaway once they confirm.
Instead of re-directing your form submission to a “thank you page” with your download, offer the details only via email. They don’t get the download until they confirm their address.
2. Change your confirm message.
One of the reasons people fail to confirm is simply because they forget by the time they read the message what the “hook” was–the free report or download you offered them.

Testimonials are a powerful way to get people to subscribe. You can use them in your initial offer or in the confirm email.
4. Modify your THANK YOU page.
Remind people to go to their email RIGHT THEN and check their email. Use a command: “To claim your valuable complementary download, go RIGHT NOW to your email inbox and confirm…”
5. Put a dollar value on the subscription and bonuses.
By telling people “This is a $97 value” you are much more likely to get confirmations.
These five tips will help you convert over 90% of your initial sign-ups into verified subscribers, helping you avoid the pitfalls of complaints.
