eBay Yourself For A Job

One college graduate has taken a more direct approach to finding a position as a rocket scientist, and put his services up for auction in the person of himself as prospective employee on eBay.

John Davis gives visitors to his eBay auction the rsum treatment: his graduation date and GPA, his proficiency in software like SolidWorks and Pro/E, and his work experience.

He wants a job, preferably as a full-timer with an engineering firm for $46,728.75, offering a 15 percent discount on the average salary for a “level 1 aerospace engineer living in the San Diego area ($54,975).”

His efforts involving job search engines and job fairs have proven equally fruitless to date, and canvassing the big names in aerospace hasn’t yielded anything either.

“I spent the summer after graduation searching for jobs but was unable to even get an interview. I applied to such places as Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon on the space application side as well as golf manufacturing companies like Taylor Made and Callaway,” he writes in his eBay description. “I applied to the golf companies because I am an avid player and thought that it would be a good job to have so I could practice a lot.”

While waiting for that job opportunity to arrive, Davis pursues a Master’s in Aerospace Engineering, Structures, and Design. “The classes are Tu/Th from 2 til 6:30 and therefore I would have to miss approximately 8 hours a week from a full time job in order to fulfill my prior scholastic obligations,” he cautions employers.

If there isn’t a full-time position available, Davis wouldn’t mind a part-time gig or even an internship. So far the job search hasn’t worked very well, leading to Davis’ eBay quest for employment.

Good luck with the job search, John.
