Just in time for holiday shopping, eBay introduces a free gift recommendation tool that provides shoppers suggestions tailored specifically to people on their shopping list.
The eBay Gift Wizard can help shoppers avoid another year of predictable presents by offering suggestions for even the most challenging gift recipients.
According to a recent AC Nielsen poll, commissioned by eBay, 48% say dads are the most difficult to buy gifts for during the holidays, followed by grandfathers (40%) and moms (37%). On the flip side, nearly three out of four said kids are the easiest to buy for, followed by grandkids (62%) and close friends (54%).
Gift Wizard takes shoppers through a few simple questions to best describe the recipient (i.e. Pet Lover, Gadget Guru, Born to Shop, etc.), age, hometown, biggest hero and even last name. Many of the suggestions generated by Gift Wizard are one-of-a-kind or unique items listed on eBay, and potentially difficult to locate or sold out at retail.
“Bottom line, it’s the thought that counts,” said Wendy Liebmann, a retail consultant and president of WSL Strategic Retail. “Shoppers are finding that web sites like eBay enable them to purchase meaningful and unique items quickly and easily, which is bringing more people online to do their holiday shopping than ever before.”
According to the same AC Nielsen survey, nine out of ten people would prefer to receive fewer but more personalized gifts.
For the person who has everything, eBay also offers gift certificates that enable the recipient to purchase any of the millions of eBay items that accept PayPal.
