Dell Ramps Up Twitter Advertising Efforts

Twitter fans, advertisers, and people who are in the market for a refurbished computer should take note: in what represents a potential win for all of you, Dell has decided to offer certain deals exclusively through one of its 80 Twitter properties.

The decision takes effect today, with DellOutlet already offering 30 percent off Outlet XPS M1210 laptops.  Bob Pearson, Dell’s vice president of Communities & Conversations, explained the move by writing, “With over 11,000 followers, our team wanted to show their thanks to the Twitter world through these new deals which will continue each week.”

So by all means consider following DellOutlet on Twitter if you’re thinking about buying a fresh machine.  Dell’s timing here is really quite clever given that the upcoming release of Windows 7 will have a lot of people doing just that.

This development also opens the door to all other sorts of advertising promotions.  Dell’s use of Twitter could be seen as legitimizing it, and different companies are sure to follow in its footsteps.  So long as things don’t get too spammy, the trend should help the site grow.  It might even lead to Twitter getting a proper revenue model.

One last note: if refurbished computers aren’t quite your style, it’d be a good idea to keep an eye on DellHomeOffers in case the promotions program expands.
