Damashi Peer Review – Spruce Up The Code

The first thing I do, is view the source file to see if good and proper Meta data is present. Brian appears to have done a good job of including this at the top of his file, making it search-engine friendly.

One of the main recommendations would be to change all the text that currently appears in all caps, e.g. the text and navigation at the top of all pages, to upper- and lowercase. It is proven that all caps are difficult to read.

Also, I would discourage against using underlines with text that is NOT link, e.g., the subtitle on the home page, ABOUT DAMASHI: Traditional ……

Although not necessary, I find that it is far more advantageous to constrain the content on the site to a set width, especially if you want user’s to easily read very text-intensive pages. By constraining the content to a set width, the line length and text size can be set so that it is easy to read (the old rule of thumb that a line length should never be longer than 2 alphabets lengths, amount of characters, that is).

As a courtesy to visitors, a “top” or “top of page” link is always helpful at the bottom of long pages.

…that’s my few minutes of reviewing the site and hitting the top things I noticed. Best of luck with business.
