Confirmed: 100 Million Daily YouTube Streams

When YouTube announced this summer that they had surpassed the 100 million video streams per day mark, the media picked it up and ran with it while skeptics sat back in disbelief – a disbelief that can still be found in the blogosphere. comScore recently released a report confirming YouTube’s numbers.

As comScore’s analysis focuses on July, the number is likely to be higher than that by October. More recent numbers, the company says, are forthcoming.

In July, YouTube was visited by more than 63 million people over the age of 15. Sixteen million were from the United States. On an average day in July, YouTube brought in 6.2 million visitors worldwide, and 1.6 million in the US, making it the 17th most visited property on the Web.

In all, 3 billion videos were streamed in July, with less than a quarter of that activity coming from the US, for an average daily stream count of 96 million, 21 million in the US. That number is an average. YouTube actually passed the 100 million mark midway through the month.

“Several media outlets have reported that YouTube streamed 100 million videos daily in July, and the results of our recent study corroborate this report,” said Gian Fulgoni, Chairman of comScore Networks.

“In fact, our daily streaming data show that YouTube.com first surpassed the 100 million threshold on July 17th, which coincides with YouTube’s own announcement that they had reached this impressive mark.

“Our streaming data covering more recent months will be published shortly, and will show that YouTube’s streaming total now far surpasses 100 million per day.”
