Comedy Central Opens Online Joke School

Just when you thought the Internet was full…Today, Comedy Central opened up an online joke school for the humor impaired.

Marking yet another stop along the way to TV/Internet content integration, while taking advantage of the broadband boom and the online community meme, the all-comedy cable network’s “Crash Course In Comedy” is an interactive online comedy school “for wannabe standup comedians.”

It’s also widgetized, if you will, allowing students to create animated, interactive comedian avatars. With technology provided by Oddcast, participants can select the digital comedian’s voice, clothes and accessories.

So, no Carrot Top; No Fran Drescher. Got it?

But what’s interesting about these avatars is that students can type, call-in, or record their stand-up routine and the avatar will read it aloud to an online buddy through the “send-to-friend” feature, or at the online gallery.

The course virtual instructor is New York comedian Ted Alexandro, a professional standup comedy coach who has appeared on “Comedy Central Presents” and “The Late Show with David Letterman.” Alexandro’s comedy class is taught via online video in 10 two-to-three minute sessions.

“Comedy Central is thrilled to join the online educational community,” said network executive Lou Wallach. “Unlike traditional curriculums, ‘Crash Course In Comedy’ was created to give our students the tools to perform, act up and cause mass hysteria.”

No, Lou, that doesn’t sound like it came from a press release. It sounded very natural.

Some of My Favorite Stupid Jokes:

A piece of string walks into a bar, props himself up on a stool and orders a beer.

The bartender says, “We don’t serve your kind in here. Get out.”

So the piece of string goes outside and starts tearing at the ends of himself, and throws himself down in the dirt and wallows around until, finally, he’s tied himself into a knot. He goes back into the bar and sits back down on the same stool and orders a beer.

The bartender looks at him suspiciously and asks, “Aren’t you the same piece of string I just threw out of here?”

“No, I’m a frayed knot.”

Did you hear about the blind guy that went bungee jumping?

He loved it, but it scared the crap out of his dog.

A pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel hanging from his zipper.

The bartender asks, “Hey! Do know you have a steering wheel hanging from your zipper?”

The pirate replies, “Aye. It’s drivin’ me nuts.”
