Bye, Audioblogger

Turns out Blogger’s Audioblogger service, where you could post to Blogger by phone, was actually run by Odeo.

While Odeo is restructuring and retooling, one of the things they decided to stop doing was Audioblogger, so Blogger is losing that feature. I don’t know how popular the feature was, but certainly there are some dissapointed Blogger users. All old audio posts will remain archived, but after November 1, you won’t be able to post new ones.

Biz says:

Lots of folks didn’t realize that Audioblogger, although made to look simliar in design to Blogger, was actually provided by Odeo for Google under contract. Google paid us a monthly fee and we hooked them up with our sweet technology.

Nevertheless, Odeo is a small company and we can only work on so many projects. We decided that supporting a feature for one of Google’s many fine products was stretching our own human resources to thin.

What I don’t get is: If your businessis struggling, why dump something you are getting paid for? Surely there was a way to minimize the effort expended by the feature while holding onto the revenue stream? Oh, well.
