Borders Makes Changes To Management

Borders Group announced a series of management reassignments to support the company’s growth strategies inside and outside of the United States.

According to Borders Group Chief Executive Officer Greg Josefowicz, the following appointments have been made, effective immediately:

Vin Altruda has been named president, Borders Group U.S. In this role, Altruda will be responsible for the customer experience and performance of all domestic Borders, Waldenbooks, Borders Express, Borders Outlet and Borders airport stores, as well as the company’s seasonal Day by Day Calendar Co. business. Altruda formerly served as president, Borders stores worldwide. His direct reports include Anne Kubek, senior vice president, Borders stores; Steve Davis, senior vice president, Borders Group operations; Sue Dasse, senior vice president, specialty retail stores, which includes Waldenbooks, Borders Express, Borders Outlet, Borders airport stores and the company’s seasonal calendar stores; and Michael Tam, senior vice president, marketing.

Rick Vanzura has been appointed president, Borders Group international and Paperchase worldwide. In this role, he will be responsible for the customer experience and performance of stores outside the U.S. as the International segment continues to grow. He also continues responsibility for information technology at Borders Group. Vanzura was formerly president, Waldenbooks specialty retail and information technology. His direct reports include Gregg Bodnar, senior vice president, international finance and operations; Philip Downer, managing director and chief operating officer Borders U.K.; John Campradt, managing director Borders Asia Pacific; Timothy Melgund, chief executive, Paperchase Products Ltd.; Richard Chilcott, senior vice president Paperchase U.S. and Fred Johnson, senior vice president, chief information officer.

Mike Spinozzi has been named executive vice president, chief product officer. In this role, Spinozzi will continue to have responsibility for merchandising and supply chain activities for Borders Group’s domestic business, and as international operations continue to grow, he will spend a larger portion of his time in that arena. Spinozzi was formerly executive vice president, chief marketing officer. His direct reports include Bill Nasshan, senior vice president, trade books; Linda Jones, vice president, children’s/periodicals/calendars; Peter Faricy, vice president, multimedia; Mark Palmucci, senior vice president, merchandise operations and supply chain; and Steve McAlexander, vice president, logistics.

“This realignment of responsibilities within our management team best supports our growth strategies, which focus on continued expansion of domestic stores with greater emphasis on leveraging the Borders brand, while remaining focused on heightened growth of our stores outside the U.S.,” Josefowicz said. “I am confident in our management team, and with these changes, I believe we are even better positioned to take advantage of the growth opportunities ahead.”
