BlogPulse announced its lists of the top ten blogs and topics across a variety of categories in the blogosphere for 2005.
The blog trend-discovery site BlogPulse published a variety of lists noting the popularity of blogs and issues people checked out through 2005. In a statement, BlogPulse listed top blogs, people, news sources, and other categories. The lists are based on “citations, links or references in blog posts.”
Blogs Boing Boing and Engadget were one and two among all blogs in the list. Politics dominated the top ten with five blogs, with Michelle Malkin’s blog rated third on the list. Flash-entertainment site Albino Blacksheep and conservative political blogs Instapundit and Power Line followed the top three.
Fantasy trumped politics in the top ten people and personalities list. Harry Potter was the most popular person, fueled by the theater debut of “Goblet of Fire.” President George Bush and the late Pope John Paul II were second and third, with tabloid fodder Brittney Spears and Michael Jackson behind them.
Yahoo! News was the top online news source cited by blogs, followed by the BBC and the New York Times. Among movies, “Sin City” edged out “Star Wars: Episode III.” The top Wikipedia online encyclopedia references were podcasting and Hurricane Katrina.
