Blinkx Picks Up “Prom Queen” Sequel

If you haven’t heard of “Prom Queen,” know that the show was – in terms of “scripted Internet dramas,” anyway – a big sensation.  And now Blinkx, the video search engine, has won the rights to host and distribute the sequel.

“Prom Queen: Summer Heat” is produced by Michael Eisner’s new company, Vuguru.  Free episodes will become available on Blinkx starting today, and one new episode will be released every day over the next three weeks.  Should you turn into a fan, don’t worry that they’ll consume your life -episodes are just two minutes long.

That’s a “win” of sorts for audiences, I suppose, and Blinkx’s founder and CEO definitely considers this deal a win for his company.  “We’re delighted to be partnering with Vuguru to distribute this pioneering content to audiences on the Web,” stated Suranga Chandratillake in a press release.

“This is high-quality, addictive drama that was produced exclusively for online viewing, in a format that has proven tremendously successful in the new media landscape – more than 15 million people watched the first series when it premiered in Spring,” he continued.

If Chandratillake sounds like he’s in a good mood, he’s got good reason to be; just two days ago, Blinkx announced partnerships with 28 different companies.  Those companies were all pretty small, but with Vuguru on its side, Blinkx appears to be picking up steam.
