Blinkx Attracts AtomFilms

Video search engine blinxk and online film company AtomFilms spliced together an agreement putting over 1000 AtomFilms short film and animation titles into blinkx search. This will much to blinkx, including some of AtomFilm’s award winning fare.

“Innovative short-form content from AtomFilms meets the needs of today’s consumers, who demand bursts of quality entertainment that fit their busy lifestyles,” said Scott Roesch, vice president and general manager of AtomFilms. “blinkx’s outstanding technology will make it that much easier for new audiences to find an AtomFilms short that is right for them.”

blinkx.tv is unique in that it is able to index and understand rich media content on the web. Traditional search engines rely on manually provided metatags or descriptions of content, while blinkx’s technology enables computers to literally watch and listen to video and audio on the web, making it searchable right down to the individual spoken words.

“We all spend more and more time in front of a computer and hooked up to the internet. Entertainment is clearly a major part of our experience online. We’re excited to bring AtomFilms’ content to our users as they are well known as the provider of much of the Web’s most entertaining film and animation,” said Suranga Chandratillake, founder and CTO, blinkx.

Honestly, this deal should be great for both companies. Good for AtomFilms because it gives them another major outlet for their great product to be reviewed and especially good for blinkx because it will add a tremendous amount of content to their search engine.

blinkx had been in the news recently regarding Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. Talks for News Corp’s purchasing blinkx have stalled though and the future of those negotiations remains uncertain.
