With Bing officially launching today, senior program managers from Microsoft discussed the new decision engine in the session “Bing: A New Approach to Internet Search.”

“Information on the Internet is exploding,” said Naam. There are about 1 trillion urls across the web.
Search is the second most used application on the Web following email. “Satisfaction in search could improve,” said Naam. Only 1 in 4 queries delivers successful results.
“We believe search doesn’t anticipate user intent. Sixty-six percent of people use search engines more frequently to make decisions,” he said. Decision sessions are lengthy.
