The AskJeeves search engine contains a function called smart search. Smart search was designed by Jeeves to offer detailed, relevant information included in search engine responses. AskJeeves has expanded this option to include current movies.
At this time, Jeeves’ movie smart search option appears to only work on films that are currently at theatres (Troy and Shrek 2 worked; Spiderman 2 did not). When a current movie is queried, the first position result is a box outlined in red that gives users a brief synopsis and a review rating (similar to a Google toolbar relevance rating).
This special result box also features a form where users can enter their zip code to find out what theatres the film is at and what the movie’s showtimes are.
Jeeves offers this explanation for its newest smart search feature:
“In order to provide relevant, useful and timely information in response to your search terms or questions, Jeeves will sometimes provide unique information and resource links compiled by human editors. These results appear in the form of questions or direct answers or content units, which appear within a red box at the top of the Ask Jeeves results page. Furthermore, these boxes may also promote relevant information from other Ask Jeeves results pages, such as image search and news search, or third-party data.”
Thanks to ResourceShelf for the heads up.
