Ask Jeeves For Pictures Too

A new search engine from Ask Jeeves lets users delve into the world of image search, via a new dedicated picture search technology from the company.

Ask Picture Search represents Ask Jeeves’ first internal index of images, and uses new search algorithms to help users find the pictures they want, Search Engine Journal reported.

Ask extolled the benefits of Ask Picture Search in a statement. They noted how image search builds on the Ask web search process of clustering “the Web into topic areas and determines the authoritativeness of pages and images among their topic community.”

Searching on Ask Pictures delivers a gallery of snapshots to a successful query. When searching for people, categories appear on the right side of the page with options to click on links for Related Names, Expand Your Search, and Narrow Your Search.

A query for George Bush returned an assortment of official photos, news pictures, and cartoons. Bill Clinton and John Kerry rated mentions as Related Names, along with Bush’s father. Expand options listed Political Cartoons and War In Iraq among its links, while Narrow options contained the White House.

SEJ also noted an extension of Ask Jeeves features related to images:

Additionally, Ask Jeeves is expanding Image Smart Answers and all image search results can be saved to users’ MyJeeves personalized search by clicking the save’ link under each image.
