ASG today announced the acquisition of AutoDBA from Senware.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed. ASG has renamed the product ASG-AutoDBA.
Database administrators (DBAs) are charged with the monitoring and management of thousands of database objects that comprise a typical enterprise system. Performance tuning in this environment can be complex and time-consuming. ASG-AutoDBA provides a consistent, proactive and automated approach that frees DBAs for more valuable work. More than the simple logic of existing tools, ASG-AutoDBA combines intelligent script generation with a unique automation framework that is precise, robust, controllable and transparent. The technology also features an integrated suite of productivity tools that provides monitoring, alerts, query and performance tuning, in addition to drill-down database details and reporting. These productivity tools complement the automation engine and enable automated features including:
— Storage/tablespace management – automatically add storage to tablespaces that need it by intelligently adding, resizing or altering data files
— Extent management – manage the storage settings of objects in a database on a per-object basis
— Chaining and fragmentation repair – automatically fix different types of fragmentation and chaining in databases
— Automated object rebuilds – automatically rebuild tables, indexes, rollback segments and snapshots for a variety of reasons, such as performance or storage optimization
— Table and index analysis – regularly analyze tables and indexes to update the statistics used by Oracle’s cost-based optimizer
— Pinning and caching in memory – automatically cache tables in the Oracle buffer cache and pin triggers, functions and packages in the Oracle shared pool in order to improve database performance
“The addition of ASG-AutoDBA technology for Oracle database monitoring and management will give ASG customers a competitive edge by automating time-consuming and mundane tasks, better enabling them to allocate resources toward issues that more significantly impact their IT environments,” said Arthur L. Allen, president and CEO of ASG.
Senware CEO Matt McAdams said, “The market trend is toward databases that are more ‘self-configuring,’ ‘self-managing,’ ‘self-optimizing’ and ‘self-healing.’ While many database tools monitor performance, alert on potential problems and recommend a fix, ASG-AutoDBA is the only solution that goes to the next level and automatically takes action to correct problems and perform routine maintenance tasks within Oracle databases.”
