Apples New Fritter: The Nano

I don’t know if I want this new Apple toy or not because as small as it is, I would inevitably leave in my jeans and it would get washed but it is cool, no doubt about it. This tiny little music player holds a ton of tunes and the price is pretty reasonable.

This lean little fritter is about the size of a credit card and weighs 1.5 ounces. Pick up your number 2 pencil and you’ve got an idea of the thickness. Now we know what Apple is doing with all those NAND Flash cards they’re buying from Samsung.

Apple’s got two versions of this baby. The first runs for $199, comes in at 2GB and hold about 500 songs. The higher priced runs $249, comes in at 4GB and holds about 1000 songs.

According to MACWORLD, the iPod nano also comes with “Auto-Sync” technology, which allows the nano to any changes you make to the catalog, which could include photos, songs, podcasts and other recordings. And yes, it’s got a color screen so you might just find those images of Kelly Monaco to put on there. Apple also say you can get 14 hours out of the battery.

The new nano comes in either white or black and comes with a variety of accessories including nano “tubes” which are cases that allow you to change the color to pink or blue or something else.

It also comes with a world clock, a calendar, a contacts list, the ability to play games and lots of other features. The thing is, this wasn’t the only thing Jobs talked about yesterday.

He also talked about the new Apple/Motorola “MotoROKR” with iTunes. This is also the gadget many have been waiting for. It will hold up to 100 songs and included the iTunes software and quality surround sounds speakers (in a cell phone?). This one’s only available through Cingular and comes with all the fixins like a VGA camera and Bluetooth technology. It runs for $249.99 also.

It seems Apple’s really with it on these groovy new toys. Now, if you can just hold out until Christmas.
