AOL Partners with Pure Networks

AOL and Pure Networks announced a partnership to extend a customized version of Pure Networks’ home networking software solution to AOL members.

Developed by Pure Networks, the new AOL Network Magic will make it easier for America Online members with broadband connections and a home network, to help keep their networks running properly, share printers and files on multiple PC’s in their home, and remotely access files and media using a Web browser. Currently in beta, the final version of AOL Network Magic will be available later this year.

Home networking is one of the fastest growing trends in broadband today. According to Parks Associates, more than half of broadband households currently have a home network installed, and as many as 40 million U.S. households are projected to have home networks by 2007.

“Making the AOL service go to work for our members no matter how they access it is pivotal and we chose to work with Pure Networks because we share a common vision of making the AOL ‘digital home’ easy-to-use and manage,” said David Park, Executive Director, AOL Digital Services, America Online, Inc. “Even with home networking on the rise, the technology can be complex and difficult to manage. With AOL Network Magic, we will deliver a product that is simple, intuitive and helps maximize the value of a home network.”

“AOL Network Magic will alleviate many of the frustrations and difficulties typically associated with home networking,” said Tim Dowling, CEO and President of Pure Networks. “We’re pleased to be working with America Online to deliver a product to AOL members that will not only facilitate a reliable home network, but will make sharing printers, files and an Internet connection easy.”

Available later this year, AOL Network Magic will offer members:

— Connectivity monitoring of all PC’s and connected devices in the household via an intuitive and easy-to-use interface;

— The ability to add most new devices with a single click and to check the status of all devices and connections at a glance;

— Auto-fixing and troubleshooting that will automatically attempt to fix many common problems detected;

— Easy access to information about the various devices connected to the network like device name, manufacturer, model number, and current status;

— The ability to easily share any printer across the network; simplified file sharing with other computers on the network with a single click; and

— Easy remote access to important, shared files when away from home.

A sneak preview of AOL Network Magic will be offered at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on January 6-9. For more information, please contact Cindy Harvey or Lisa Amore (contact information below).
