AOL Enjoys A Sticky June

The June 2005 figures from Nielsen//NetRatings show AOL users spent over six hours per person using its sites.

Yahoo was the top brand for combined home and work uses in June, as the press release notes over 99 million unique visitors for the month. Microsoft, MSN, and Google were next among brands, and then AOL placed fifth in unique visitor count.

AOL made the most of its 74 million visitors. The figures show users average six hours and 22 minutes per person using the AOL brand. That would include users of its AIM client. Conversely, Google visitors averaged under 40 minutes per person for its 76 million unique visitors.

If there was any mystery remaining regarding the development and debut of Google Talk, those figures probably just cleared up those lingering questions. Completing the top ten list of brands for June were eBay, MapQuest, Real, Amazon, and the Weather Channel. MapQuest and the Weather Channel saw great usage from visitors planning their early summer vacations.

In the top ten parent companies by combined home & work usage, Microsoft, driven by its monthly patch update releases for the ubiquitous Windows operating system, saw over 110 million unique visitors in June. AOL’s parent Time Warner placed second with 102 million, but those visitors averaged over 5 hours per person.

No other parent company saw June visitors break the 100 million mark, but Yahoo came close with just over 99 million. Google and eBay trailed Yahoo in the top five. Sites run by the US government proved compelling enough to place sixth in this list.

InterActiveCorp, owners of the Ask Jeeves search engine, were seventh in unique audience, and Amazon, RealNetworks, and the Walt Disney Company filled in the last three spots in the top ten.
